Ferme Sainte-Cécile Restaurant Review – Provence (2019)

Although Ferme Sainte-Cécile is not exactly a degustation restaurant, I felt an obligation to write such a satisfying experience. This marvelous restaurant is located in the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, one of the sweetest villages in the Provence region.

Ambiance

The restaurant had a cozy feeling where everything felt sincere. Being surrounded by trees and nature reflected the characteristic of Provence region truly. The weather may get a little cold as the hours pass by, but sitting outside on a summer night is bliss.

Taste

I have no idea how Michelin missed out this quality of food in the fantastic village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. This restaurant definitely deserves recognition with a star. There was no degustation menu, but you were to choose three different courses from starters, main courses and desserts. I was lucky that we were four people, this way I got to taste different dishes. Each and every dish was spectacular. A big congratulations to the chef and his team for masterfully executing them.

The experience started out with two different amuse-bouche; tuna fish puree on biscuits and tomato juice with ricotta cheese. Both of them were promising, but the starter was definitely mind-blowing; octopus with chorizo ice cream. The ice cream was fiery and the octopus was succulent. It was one of the dishes that you don’t wish to be over with.

My choice of the main dish was Iberico pork with bell pepper ice cream. The thought-provoking chef had a liking for ice cream made of unique ingredients. Bell pepper ice cream was a great company with ambrosial pork. The other options of the main dish were pigeon and fish. I tasted them from my friends and both of them were exquisite.

Crème brûlée with truffles and smoked tea was glorious. The smoky flavor of the tea and the earthiness of the truffles enriched the taste. The piquant lemon mousse and the deceptively simple chocolate mousse were the other sensational options.

Fresh goat cheese from a nearby village was offered with tomato marmalade. I don’t enjoy goat cheese much but I can say this one was a melt in your mouth.

Petite four with passion fruit, mango and chocolate flavors were exotic and exciting. Michelin inspectors definitely need to consider this restaurant for a star.

Creativity

The level of sophistication achieved by simplicity was astonishing. Ingredient-driven ice creams were brilliant. Bell pepper, chorizo, black pepper, cherry leaf and peanut ice cream were exclusive.

Service

Reservation is a must for this recommended restaurant. Online reservation wasn’t working so I had to give a call. The first thing I saw was the “fully-booked” writing at the entrance.

The woman who served us was very friendly. She was concerned about her English but frankly explained the dishes.

Value

The most amazing part was that this divine three-course menu with all the treats was only 40 Euros per person! This menu could easily be priced for twice or three times as much with its incredible quality. In addition to that, the recommended wines were a remarkable match with the courses.
